About this role

Role Overview

Apply advanced mechanical design expertise to help train next-generation AI systems through high-quality, real-world CAD input. This remote contract role centers on fully parametric 3D modeling and will focus on FreeCAD, with Autodesk Inventor and comparable CAD experience directly transferable. Prior AI experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop fully parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies from detailed written briefs using Autodesk Inventor or comparable platforms.
  • Edit and update existing models for revised requirements while maintaining parametric integrity and CAD best practices.
  • Audit CAD models for dimensional, tolerance, and manufacturability compliance, documenting gaps and issues.
  • Create and interpret detailed technical drawings using ASME Y14.5 or equivalent GD&T standards.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturability considerations across injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, and casting or forging.
  • Document the rationale behind design decisions, model edits, and audits to support AI training work.
  • Provide precise, solution-oriented written and verbal feedback to project stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of hands-on parametric modeling experience for edit-level tasks, and 10 or more years for complex model-creation work.
  • Expertise in Autodesk Inventor. Experience with FreeCAD, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360 is highly relevant; FreeCAD experience is preferred.
  • Practical proficiency applying GD&T under ASME Y14.5 or an equivalent standard.
  • DFM experience spanning at least two or three manufacturing processes, such as injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, or casting.
  • Experience with reverse-engineering workflows, including scan-to-CAD or point-cloud-to-model reconstruction.
  • Ability to manage assembly-level designs and complex mechanical systems, not solely single-part models.
  • Familiarity with CAD automation or scripting tools, including Python, iLogic, VBA, NX Open, or similar tools.
  • Strong technical drawing interpretation, written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail.

Work Terms

  • Remote contract engagement.

Compensation

  • $30 to $100 per hour.
