About this role
Apply production mechanical design expertise to help improve AI systems that interpret, solve, and explain complex engineering challenges. This remote contract role centers on high-quality technical input across GD&T, tolerance stack-up, design for manufacturability, and drawing release. No prior AI experience is required.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate and solve advanced mechanical design and CAD problems involving part and assembly design, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and design for manufacturability.
- Review AI-generated technical responses for correctness, accuracy, and engineering quality.
- Apply practical engineering judgment to production design scenarios and theoretical questions.
- Analyze and troubleshoot design issues using tolerance stack-up analysis, GD&T per ASME Y14.5, and design-for-manufacturability and assembly reviews.
- Provide domain expertise and clear written and verbal feedback to strengthen AI reasoning and performance.
- Collaborate remotely with distributed experts and project participants.
- Mechanical design and CAD expertise, with at least 5 years of experience in production design roles and direct ownership of designs through GD&T, tolerance stacks, DFM, and drawing release.
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, or Industrial Design. CSWP or CSWE certification is a plus.
- Expert knowledge of parametric CAD modeling, GD&T per ASME Y14.5, tolerance stack-up analysis, and design-for-manufacturability and assembly principles.
- Demonstrated ability to take designs from concept through detail drawings, ECR/ECN, and production release.
- Familiarity with ASME Y14.5, ASME B89 dimensional metrology, and manufacturing constraints for machining, sheet metal, injection molding, and casting.
- Professional English proficiency and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, or Inventor, PLM/PDM systems, or CAM/CNC programming is a plus.
- Strong preference for evidence of rigorous problem authoring, such as service on an olympiad problem committee, textbook problem-set or solutions-manual authorship, NCEES or academic qualifying-exam item writing, standards committee service, leadership or top placement in engineering design competitions, or an early-career fellowship or grant.
- Remote contract engagement.
- $60 to $130 per hour.
